From 1 to 4 November the Flemish Masters were present at the Furniture Fair Brussels at the trend and innovation hall Square. That the project is highly appreciated was proven by not only one but two nominations for the Balthazar Awards. The whole concept was granted a nomination for the Most Trendy Award and the Most Innovative Award.
The Flemish Masters objects and furniture were shown to the trade professionals for the first time during the first edition of MoOD. Get an overview in images of the Flemish Masters platform.
A THINK TANK was created with professional designers from different industries presided by Axel Enthoven of Enthoven Associates Design Consultants. These creative people had to support the manufacturers’ team with their project, coach, inspire, often give pushes and also correct them as well as provide creative support. Who were these people and which courageous companies formed teams?
Five partnerships have been formed, a cooperation between a textile manufacturer and a furniture producer. And in one of these five projects a third player has also joined up – in this case a radiator manufacturer. Elsewhere, two textile manufacturers have realised a ‘solo’ work, but nevertheless all the teams worked with a designer from the Flemish Masters think tank.
Belgian, and more specifically Flemish companies, are not largely recognised as team players. Rather, they’re individualists with strong personalities. As such, Flemish Masters’ idea of bringing together the furniture sector and textile companies and challenging them to work together on common projects is indeed unique.
